Minnesota Twins Part of a Dubious Record in Current Sports History

Did you know that it's been 32 years since the state of Minnesota won a championship in the four major sports? The Minnesota Twins last won a title in 1991 as Minnesota has the longest championship drought among cities with four major sports teams.

The Minnesota Twins, and the rest of Minnesota's four major sports teams, are part of a very dubious record in current sports history.

Per SKOR North on social media:

With the Minnesota #Vikings missing the playoffs, Minnesota sports fans have now gone 32 years without a NFL, MLB, NHL or NBA championship. #SKOL

That 32 year drought is the longest drought among markets with all four major sports. The Minnesota Twins last won the World Series in 1991, marking the last victory. As spring training begins in just under three weeks, the Twins will be trying to break that drought (although the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Wild will have chances to break it earlier).

The Twins won the American League Central a year ago and advanced to the American League Division Series but were ultimately beaten by the Houston Astros in that round. They figure to be good again in 2024 but they will look different. They've lost top starter Sonny Gray in free agency and are likely to see outfielder Michael A. Taylor leave as well.

On the positive side of things, they are looking at a full year of Royce Lewis, who dealt with injury for much of last season, and a full year of Edouard Julien, who made an impact upon being called up last season.

Here are the other markets that have the four major sports leagues present:

Boston: (Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins)

Chicago: (Bears, White Sox, Cubs, Bulls, Blackhawks)

Dallas: (Cowboys, Rangers, Mavericks, Stars)

Denver: (Broncos, Rockies, Nuggets, Avalanche)

Detroit: (Lions, Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings)

Los Angeles: (Chargers, Rams, Angels, Dodgers, Lakers, Clippers, Kings, Ducks)

Miami: (Dolphins, Marlins, Heat, Panthers)

Minneapolis:

New York: (Giants, Jets, Mets, Yankees, Knicks, Nets, Rangers, Islanders)

Phoenix: (Cardinals, Diamondbacks, Suns, Coyotes)

San Francisco: (49ers, Giants, Warriors, Sharks)

Washington, D.C. (Commanders, Nationals, Wizards, Capitals)

Phoenix has the next longest championship drought. The Diamondbacks won the World Series in 2001.
