Nick Castellanos, Philadelphia Phillies Make Home Run History in Game 1 Victory

The Philadelphia Phillies hit three home runs on Monday night in a Game 1 NLCS victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The home run barrage made playoff baseball history for both the team and for slugger Nick Castellanos.

The Philadelphia Phillies hit three home runs on Monday night in a 5-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 1 of the NLCS.

With the win, Philadelphia is just three wins away from a return trip to the World Series. They are seeking their first title since 2008, when they beat the Tampa Bay Rays.

The home runs were clubbed by Phillies stars Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos, with both the team and Castellanos making some illustrious playoff history.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

The home run barrage continues for the Phillies, who now have the most homers in a 3-game postseason span (12) in MLB history.

Nick Castellanos also joined Reggie Jackson in 1977 as the only players all-time with 5 HR in a 3-game span in a postseason.

The Phillies have been on a tear this postseason, going 6-1 thus far. They beat the Miami Marlins in two games in the National League Wild Card Series, then took care of the Atlanta Braves in four games before beating the Diamondbacks.

As for Castellanos, he's been other-worldly hot this postseason. He's now hitting .370 with five homers and six RBI. Lifetime, he's a .232 playoff hitter with six home runs.

Castellanos had a very strong year in Philadelphia this year, his second in that uniform. He hit .272 with 29 homers with 106 RBI. He's in his 11th year in the big leagues with the Tigers, Reds, Cubs and Phillies.

Game 2 of the series will be played on Tuesday night at 8:07 p.m. ET.
