The Los Angeles Angels and Pittsburgh Pirates Made Baseball History on Friday Night

The Los Angeles Angels and the Pittsburgh Pirates did something that has never been done before in baseball history on Friday night.

The Los Angeles Angels beat the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night by a score of 8-5.

The win was hugely important for the Angels as it moved them to 50-48 on the season and just 4.0 games back in the American League wild card race. As they try to wrestle with the decision about whether or not to trade Shohei Ohtani, every win they get puts them in a better position for keeping the two-way superstar.

Now, we already told you that Pirates rookie Henry Davis made history by becoming the first player to hit two home runs in the same game off of Ohtani, but the two teams themselves also made baseball history.

Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:

Tonight's Pirates-Angels game was the first 9-inning game in MLB history in which each team hit 4+ home runs while also striking out 13+ times.

The homestanding Angels got home runs from veteran Mike Moustakas (9th), Trey Cabbage (1), Zach Neto (8) and Taylor Ward (12) while the Pirates got big fly's from Ji-Man Choi (5), Davis (3,4) and Jack Suwinski (20).

On the mound, five Pirates pitchers combined to strike out 13 Angels batters while for the Halos, Shohei Ohtani punched out nine. Two Angels relievers combined for four more Ks.

The loss dropped the Pirates to 42-55 on the season and they are in last place in the National League Central.

The two teams will play again on Saturday night. First pitch from Anaheim is scheduled for 9:07 p.m. ET.
