The Washington Nationals officially took over some dubious baseball history this weekend -- and added to it on Monday night.

Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:

The Washington Nationals have not swept any of their last 90 series. That is the longest streak of series without a sweep in MLB history, supplanting the 89 straight series without a sweep by the Philadelphia Athletics from 1914-1917.

The record was broken over the weekend but with the Nationals losing to the Mariners in the opening game of a three-game series on Monday night, there will be no sweep in this series either. The streak is now up to 91 straight series without a sweep.

The Nationals are much better than they were a year ago but they are still mired in the depths of a serious rebuild. Since winning the World Series in 2019, the Nationals have torn the roster down to the studs, trading Max Scherzer, Trea Turner, Juan Soto, Kyle Schwarber and Josh Bell. They've also seen Stephen Strasburg barely pitch because of serious injuries.

The Nationals currently sit at 30-48 which is the worst record in the National League. They are already 21.0 games out of first place in the National League East behind the Atlanta Braves.

The Nationals lost on Monday to the Mariners, 8-4. The two teams will play again on Tuesday at 9:40 p.m. ET. Jake Irvin (1-4, 4.71 ERA) pitches for Washington while rookie Bryan Woo (1-1, 5.09 ERA) pitches for Seattle.

The Mariners enter play at 38-39 and looking to get back to the .500 mark.
