Mookie Betts Joins Fun Los Angeles Dodgers History as Team Beats Nationals on Tuesday

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night as infielder Mookie Betts went 5-for-5 at the plate. In the process, he joined an exclusive and fun group in team history.

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium by a score of 6-2.

With the win, Los Angeles moved to 12-8 on the season. Washington dropped to 7-10 on the year with the loss.

Ryan Yarbrough got the win on the mound, tossing 5.0 innings in relief. He gave up two earned runs on two hits and no walks. He had three strikeouts and is now 2-0 on the season.

While Yarbrough's appearance was solid, the real story of the day was Mookie Betts, who went 5-for-5 in the win. He had two doubles and three singles with two runs scored and two RBI. He's now hitting .388 through the first 20 games of the season.

He also joined some rare and fun Dodgers history with the performance, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Sure, it's niche history, but it's history all the same. Betts has been one of the best players in baseball over the last decade and has continued his excellent career at the outset of 2024. A World Champion (2018, 2020), an MVP (2018) and a multi-time All-Star and Gold Glover, Betts is a career .296 hitter with 258 homers and 774 RBI. He's also stolen 175 bases.

The Dodgers and Nationals will play again on Wednesday afternoon as Jake Irvin (0-1, 4.24 ERA) pitches for the Nats. The Dodgers haven't named a starter as of this posting.
