The New York Yankees announced Monday afternoon that the club has placed outfielder Aaron Judge on the 10-day Injured List with a right hip strain, retroactive to Friday, April 28.

In a corresponding roster move, the Yankees recalled outfielder Franchy Cordero from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

No timetable for Judge's return has been provided, at this time. Losing the reigning American League MVP is a significant blow to the Yankees, who find themselves tied for last place in the American League East with the Boston Red Sox, entering play Monday. The Yankees lost three of four to the Texas Rangers in Arlington, Texas over the weekend. The club has dropped its last three series and now stands at 15-14.

Judge was injured last Wednesday, sliding into third base on a stolen base attempt. Initially, the concern appeared to be that he had injured his right wrist. Judge said that his entire right side was sore the next morning when he woke up. An MRI Friday showed that Judge had a mild hip strain.

The Tampa Bay Rays (23-6) lead the Yankees by eight games in the AL East. The Baltimore Orioles (19-9) trail the Rays by 3.5 games, and the Toronto Blue Jays (18-10) are 4.5 games back of the division lead.
