Seattle Mariners' Pitching Staff Makes Team History as Logan Gilbert Spins a Gem on Tuesday

The Seattle Mariners beat the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night for the second time in as many games as Logan Gilbert delivered another excellent start. As part of the effort, Gilbert helped make some team history for the pitching staff.

The Seattle Mariners beat the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night, 3-1, to move to 8-10 on the year. For an M's team that hasn't played well in the early going, it was a great win with several different heroes.

Julio Rodriguez registered just his second multi-hit game of the season in the win, while also making two incredible defensive plays in center field and Tayler Saucedo got the final out of the game with the bases loaded and two outs.

But perhaps the biggest story of the night was starting pitcher Logan Gilbert, who allowed just one run over 6.2 innings. The big man surrendered just three hits and one walk while striking out six. He's now 1-0 on the season with a 2.33 ERA.

Furthermore, Gilbert struck out the side in the first inning, which helped confirm historic status for the M's pitching staff in the early going.

Per @MarinersPR on social media:

The @Mariners pitching staff has set a franchise record of 30-consecutive innings without issuing a walk (h/t Elias Sports).

It's a nice run for the staff, which has seen Bryce Miller, Emerson Hancock, Luis Castillo, George Kirby and Gilbert deliver strong results this time through the rotation. Furthermore, the bullpen has done a nice job even despite the absences of Matt Brash and Gregory Santos, who are both out with injury.

The Mariners will take on the Reds one more time on Wednesday afternoon with the first pitch coming at 3:37 p.m. ET. Andrew Abbott (CIN) will pitch against Miller.
