Baltimore Orioles' Stud Prospect Makes Team History in Major League Debut

The Baltimore Orioles rallied to beat the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night at Fenway Park as rookie Jackson Holliday did something not done for more than 60 years in his Major League debut.

The Baltimore Orioles scored seven runs in the sixth and seventh innings on Wednesday night to stun the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. The O's move to 7-4 with the 7-5 win while Boston fell to 7-5 on the young season.

While the O's comeback win was certainly great, the big story on the night was the debut of 20-year-old Jackson Holliday.

Baseball's top prospect and the son of former Rockies, Cardinals, A's and Yankees star Matt Holliday went 0-for-4 on the night, but he did deliver a memorable first RBI as part of the win.

That RBI also put him on a historic list in team history, as he did something that hasn't been done by an Orioles player in more than 60 years.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

at 20 years & 128 days, Jackson Holliday is the 4th-youngest player in Orioles/Browns history with an RBI in his MLB debut, older than only:

9/17/55 Brooks Robinson: 18 y, 122 d
9/26/62 Andy Etchebarren: 19 y, 98 d
4/15/58 Ron Hansen: 20 y, 10 d

Holliday was hitting .333 at Triple-A Norfolk before getting the call this week.

Here's a portion of his MLB.com prospect profile:

It's an easy argument to make that Holliday is the best pure hitting prospect in the game. His incredibly advanced approach at the plate led to him being one of just eight Minor Leaguers who walked 100 or more times in 2023, resulting in a .442 on-base percentage. He combines that discipline with a short left-handed stroke that delivers consistent hard contact and elite-level exit velocities. Still only 20 for the 2024 season, Holliday continues to add strength, and there’s confidence he’ll drive the ball more -- and over the fence -- with greater consistency.

The Orioles and Red Sox play again on Thursday night at 7:10 p.m. ET.
