There's a joke out there that's pretty common on the internet about the Los Angeles Angels. It goes along with the notion that each day Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout do something superhuman but the team still finds a way to lose.

That joke was a reality on Friday night in a 4-3 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Per optaStats: The Angels are the first MLB team to have a pair of former MVPs (Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout) each get an extra-base hit but have the rest of the team go hitless since the New York Yankees did it with Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris on May 6, 1962.

That's right... Mike Trout hit a mammoth two-run home run in the first inning off of Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt, and Ohtani hit a ringing double in the eighth inning off reliever Erik Swanson. They did their part, but the rest of the Angels didn't get even one single hit. It hasn't happened in more than 60 years at this point that a team has had two MVP's get an extra-base hit and no one else gets one single hit.

With Trout and Ohtani, the Angels are used to making history, but this is the wrong kind of history.

The Angels will need to avoid these kind of failures if they want to break a playoff drought that extends back to 2014. The team hasn't won a playoff game since 2009, before Mike Trout ever made his debut.

The Angels are now 4-3 on the season and will take on the Blue Jays again on Saturday at 9:07 p.m. ET.
