Los Angeles Angels Rookie Continues to Chase Baseball History as Streak Continues

The Los Angeles Angels whooped up on the Miami Marlins on Wednesday and rookie first baseman Nolan Schanuel continued to chase baseball history.

The Los Angeles Angels pounded the Miami Marlins, 10-2, on Wednesday to move to 4-2 on the young season.

It's impressive what the Angels have done in the early going under new manager Ron Washington, considering they lost Shohei Ohtani in the offseason and are expected to finish fourth in the American League West.

In the win, the Angels pounded out 12 hits, including getting a home run from Taylor Ward, which was his third.

Furthermore, rookie Nolan Schanuel continued to move up the history books by getting on base yet again.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Most consecutive games reaching base safely to start career, since 1900:

1984 Alvin Davis: 47
1918 Truck Hannah: 38
2023-24 Nolan Schanuel: 35*
1938 Enos Slaughter: 29

* = active streak extended today

The extension of this streak was made even more impressive by the fact that Schanuel didn't start the game. He entered after Luis Rengifo had already amassed three at-bats. Schanuel went 1-for-1 to extend the streak.

It's been a meteoric rise for Schanuel, who was just drafted in the 2023 MLB Draft. After just a few weeks of minor league seasoning, the Angels brought him up and promptly stuck him the leadoff spot. He made the team again out of camp and continues to play a regular role, although he didn't start Wednesday.

He's hitting .188 in the early going with a homer and three RBI.

After the loss, the Marlins dropped to a whopping 0-7 to start the year.

The Angels will return home on Friday night to host the Boston Red Sox.
