UFC 300 News: Jamahal Hill Addresses Health Concerns Before Return Fight

The former light heavyweight champion has been sidelined for more than a year.

Jamahal Hill has reassured fans that he'll be operating at his absolute best when he returns to the Octagon to headline UFC 300 opposite Alex Pereira.

“Sweet Dreams” claimed the vacant light heavyweight belt at UFC 283 when he battered former champion Glover Teixeira in a unanimous decision victory, but unfortunately an Achilles tendon injury forced the 32-year-old to relinquish the belt before he had a chance to defend it.

UFC CEO Dana White announced last week that Hill will finally return on April 13 at UFC 300 for a title bout with Pereira, and the former light heavyweight king was quick to address fan concerns about his return from a serious injury.

Hill's reign as UFC light heavyweight champion was cut short due to injury.

“Another one of the big questions surrounding [the fight] has been my health,” Hill said on his YouTube channel. “I’m not rushing back. I’ve been training, I’ve been sparring, I’ve been at a full go now for a few weeks now. There’s been no setbacks, nothing hindering anything. When I’m saying ‘full go’, I mean this is me doing everything full speed, full on like I would when I normally train. There’s no concerns. My Achilles is not an issue. It’s not a problem at all.”

The news that Hill and Pereira would be headlining UFC 300 was met with some surprise from fight fans, both because of questions around the former champion's health as well as the lofty expectations White established for the card’s highly-anticipated main event.

“Sweet Dreams” will certainly need to be at his best when he steps into the cage on April 13, as Pereira is arguably the most dangerous striker in the UFC and has managed to win titles in two different weight classes after just seven fights with the promotion.
