10-Year NBA Veteran Is Officially Retired

Gorgui Dieng, who is now working for the San Antonio Spurs, revealed in an interview with Jeff McDonald of San Antonio Express-News that he is officially retired from the NBA.

Gorgui Dieng is coming off a season where he played in 31 games for the San Antonio Spurs.

The 33-year-old averaged 3.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest while shooting 38.5% from the field and 28.0% from the three-point range.

Jeff McDonald of San Antonio Express-News recently did an interview with Dieng (who is now working for the Spurs), and he revealed that he is officially retired from playing (h/t HoopsHype). 

Via McDonald: "When Gorgui Dieng's playing career ended this fall, he asked the Spurs if he could stay on as an unpaid intern. The Spurs agreed, on the condition he let them pay him."

Dieng was the 21st pick in the 2013 NBA Draft out of Louisville. 

He played three seasons of college basketball for the Cardinals and helped them win the 2013 NCAA Championship over the Michigan Wolverines.  

In addition to the Spurs, Dieng has also played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks and Memphis Grizzlies.  

His career averages are 7.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest while shooting 49.6% from the field and 35.5% from the three-point range in 628 regular season games. 

He has also appeared in nine NBA playoff games with the Timberwolves and Hawks.

As for the Spurs, they are the 15th seed in the Western Conference with a 3-18 record in their first 21 games.  

They are in the middle of a 16-game losing streak and will play their next game on Monday when they visit the Houston Rockets.
