UPDATE: Minnesota Timberwolves Release 3-Point Shooter

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Minnesota Timberwolves will waive Matt Ryan.

UPDATE: The Minnesota Timberwolves have officially waived Matt Ryan.        

Matt Ryan is coming off a year where he played in 34 regular season games for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers.  

The 26-year-old averaged 3.6 points per contest while shooting 37.0% from the field and 38.1% from the three-point range.   

On Friday, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported that the Timberwolves will waive Ryan. 

Via Charania: "The Minnesota Timberwolves are waiving wing shooter Matt Ryan and signing Daishen Nix to a two-way NBA contract, per sources. Nix averaged 6 points and 3.3 assists in preseason. Ryan scored 18 points on 6 3‘s over final 2 games."

Ryan has played two seasons in the NBA for the Lakers, Timberwolves and Celtics.  

He has a career average of 3.6 points per contest while shooting 36.3% from the field and 37.1% from the three-point range in 35 games. 

In addition to his time in the NBA, Ryan has also played in the G League. 

His career averages are 19.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest while shooting 44.4% from the field and 40.1% from the three-point range in 37 regular season games (he has also appeared in 12 Showcase Cup games). 

Meanwhile, Nix has spent the previous two seasons with the Houston Rockets.  

Last year, he averaged 4.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest while shooting 34.2% from the field and 28.6% from the three-point range in 57 games. 

The Timberwolves will play their first game of the season on October 25 against the Toronto Raptors (in Canada).
