Timberwolves Waive Veteran Guard On Thursday

On Thursday, the Minnesota Timberwolves waived veteran guard Bryn Forbes.

The Minnesota Timberwolves were involved in a three-team trade on Wednesday that resulted in the Los Angeles Lakers trading Russell Westbrook to the Utah Jazz, the Jazz trading Mike Conley to the Timberwolves and the Timberwolves sending D'Angelo Russell to the Lakers.

Trading only D'Angelo Russell and bringing in both Mike Conley and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, the Timberwolves would need to waive a player in order to make room for their two new acquisations and on Thursday, they decided to waive veteran guard Bryn Forbes, according to The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski.

The Timberwolves signed Forbes this past offseason to a minimum deal and he was expected to be a key shooter in their second-unit, filling the void left behind by Malik Beasley when he was dealt to the Jazz for Rudy Gobert in the offseason.

Ultimately, Forbes saw little time off Minnesota's bench and had been pushed back in the team's depth chart recently in favor of Jaylen Nowell and other younger players.

Playing in 25 games for the Timberwolves this season, Forbes averaged 3.6 points per game while shooting 30.4 percent from three-point range.

A career 41.0 percent three-point shooter, Bryn Forbes will be a key name to watch in the buyout market for contending teams around the league.

It is also worth mentioning that Forbes carries championship experience with him, as he was a member of the 2021 Milwaukee Bucks championship team.
