Are The Knicks And Mitchell Robinson Heading Towards An Offseason Split?

Continuing to voice his frustrations on social media, could Mitchell Robinson look to move on from the New York Knicks in the offseason?

The New York Knicks are currently in the midst of their best season since they won 54 games during the 2012-13 season and they will enter the playoffs as a very formidable team.

However, not everyone on the team seems to be happy with their role, as center Mitchell Robinson continues to voice his frustrations on social media.

Last week, Robinson posted messages on Snapchat stating that he is easting his time and energy just running around and more recently, the Knicks center liked a post on Twitter suggesting he would have a bigger role somewhere else in the league.

Just this past offseason, the Knicks extended Mitchell Robinson on a new four-year, $60 million deal that keeps him under contract through the 2025-26 season.

With this contract being front-loaded though and decreasing in salary each year, the Knicks do hold some advantages in terms of Robinson's cap hit and potentially moving him in an offseason trade.

Whether or not the Knicks will look to move Mitchell Robinson is a major question mark, but the 24-year-old center does appear to want his role expanded on.

With Isaiah Hartenstein proving his worth this season, Julius Randle proving that he can play the center position in smaller lineups and the Knicks still having Obi Toppin as an option at the power forward position, maybe moving on from Mitchell Robinson is something the Knicks will look to do.

After all, New York has a handful of tradeable contracts and draft picks entering the offseason, giving them options in terms of adding more talent around the likes of Julius Randle, Jalen Brunson and RJ Barrett.

Missing a handful of time through the years, Robinson has been a liability at times for the Knicks and does not seem to be a focal point for them outside of his rebounding and shot-blocking abilities.

Playing in 52 games this season, Mitchell Robinson has averaged 7.4 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 69.1 percent from the floor. He is only averaging 4.7 shot attempts per game this season.
