Aston Martin had a fantastic start to the season at the Bahrain Grand Prix yesterday, and although Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez brought home a 1-2 finish for Red Bull, Fernando Alonso is who everyone has been talking about.

Alonso finished third on the podium, which was his first podium finish since the 2021 Qatar Grand Prix. Prior to that, he had gone seven years without a podium finish.

One fan noticed that the Aston Martin stock prices shot up after Alonso's incredible performance. They wrote to Twitter:

"Alonso has a reputation for destroying teams but this time he might have just made them a lot of money"

For 2023, the stock price of Aston Martin has been rising steadily, but March 1st saw a huge increase in value with the price per share increasing from around £190 to £276. If Aston Martin continues to see success in F1, could this potentially be a viable investment opportunity?

Unfortunately, no. While you shouldn't take information on this site as investment advice, I do believe that the major stock price increase has been seen and if anything, will increase only incrementally over the next few months. But if Aston Martin actually bags the world title, then, maybe we could see an even larger increase in value.

Interestingly, at the same time, Mercedes is also seeing an increase in share value, with the start of the year share price sitting at €63, increasing to €75 now.

Anyway...

The Spanish driver made his F1 debut in 2001 and has driven for Minardi, Renault, McLaren, Ferrari, Alpine, and Aston Martin. It's a running thought throughout the F1 world that Alonso has often made the wrong team move choices over the years. However, his move to Aston Martin may have been one of the best moves he has made.

It became clear that the British team had made significant improvements from last year during pre-season testing in Bahrain. Alonso then went on to top the timesheets during FP2 and FP3 ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix. Fans have been over the moon seeing Alonso back on the podium and have high hopes for the Aston Martin team being up in the thick of the fight at the front of the field.

The next important F1 date is the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix on 17-19 March.
