NRHA Stallion Spooks Gotta Whiz Surpasses $7 Million Milestone
In 2023, National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) competitors amassed more than $24 million in winnings, propelling several stallions to new million-dollar milestones. Among them was NRHA Hall of Famer Spooks Gotta Whiz, who achieved remarkable success. Just two months after surpassing the $6 million mark, the stallion crossed the $7 million threshold and ranked as the second-highest leading sire of 2023 (NRHA categories 1-12), with his offspring earning $2,285,709.
Spooks Gotta Whiz's offspring excelling in the show pen comes as no surprise given the stallion's own illustrious career. Bred by Clint Haverty in 2007, the stallion clinched the 2010 NRHA Level 4 Open Futurity Championship with NRHA $3 Million Rider Jordan Larson. His prowess continued alongside NRHA $7 Million Rider Shawn Flarida, securing victories at the 2012 NRHA Derby and the National Reining Breeders Classic. Their partnership culminated in a gold medal at the 2014 World Equestrian Games.
During the 2023 Futurity and Adequan® North American Affiliate Championships, Spooks Gotta Whiz's exceptional offspring propelled him past the $7 million milestone, with earnings exceeding $458,000 in the open and non-pro futurity alone.
Shez Got Addy Tude, one of the standout offspring, aided Spooks Gotta Whiz's ascent to the top-earning sire at the 2023 NRHA Futurity. With NRHA Professional Kole Price at the reins, the mare clinched the NRHA Open Futurity Level 3 Championship, adding $137,861 to her lifetime earnings.
NRHA Professional Luca Fappani and Playing With Da Boys contributed further to Spooks Gotta Whiz's success, earning the Open Level 2 Futurity Co-Championship and $108,000.
Despite retiring from the show pen in 2014, Spooks Gotta Whiz's legacy persists as his offspring dominate arenas worldwide.
