Beau Peterson's skills were on full display at the Royal Crown Futurity in Buckeye, Ariz., on Feb. 12 as she delivered a commanding performance, earning over $20,000 for owners, stallions, and breeders. Riding multiple different horses, Peterson did a full sweep in the 6 & Under Breakaway Futurity, taking first, second, and third place and winning the All Ages Breakaway Jackpot.

In the 6 & Under category, Peterson rode Walter Johnson's Rollin On The River, a 2019 gelding by Smooth As A Cat out of Creedence Clearwater (Peptoboonsmal), to the first position. Peterson's average score of 314.34 helped her win $5,520 in owner pay, $864 in stallion pay and $576 in breeder pay.

Peterson's dominance continued as she secured the second position in the 6 & Under on Neal & Jody Wanless's Smooth Gator, a 2019 stallion by A Smooth Guy out of Cats Angeluna (High Brow Cat). Scoring 296.34, Peterson earned $4,140 in owner pay, $648 in stallion pay and $432 in breeder pay.

Peterson also secured the third position while riding Walter Johnson's CR Pepto Tuff Lena, a 2019 gelding by Woody Be Tuff out of CR Catalena Cat (High Brow Cat). Peterson achieved an average score of 295.05, which earned her $2,760 in owner pay, $432 in stallion pay and $288 in breeder pay.

Peterson continued her winning streak by triumphing in the All Ages Breakaway Jackpot, riding Cynthia Patty's Cash Bonus Reyzin, a 2017 mare by Reyzin The Cash and Sevens N Eights (Smart Little Lena). Peterson's aggregate time of 10.56 seconds secured her $5,335 in owner pay, $453 in stallion pay and $307 in breeder pay.

Peterson's commanding performance is a testament to her skills as a rider, trainer and breakaway roper. She has a history of successful performances at the Royal Crown Futurity event, including a full sweep in the 6 & Under Breakaway Futurity at one of her first appearances at the Royal Crown in Rock Springs in August 2023, where she won first, second and third, raking in over $19,000 for the owners, breeders and stallion owners she rode for.

Peterson's talent with a rope and exceptional horsemanship was spotted early in her career by World Champion and 14-time NFR qualifier Shane Hanchey when he saw her at a junior roping. Hanchey could tell that she had a lot of potential. Several years later, Peterson reached out to Hanchey when she didn't have a horse to ride at Oakley, Utah. He let her ride one of his horses, and that's how their relationship began.

Peterson's accomplishments are not limited to futurities; she has also made a name for herself on the ProRodeo scene. In 2022, Peterson and Taylor Hanchey made the National Finals Breakaway Roping (NFBR) together after being travel partners throughout the year.

Her 2023 ProRodeo season included top finishes at events such as the Greeley Stampede and the Reno Rodeo, earning her just over $53,000 for the year.

Peterson currently has just over $6,000 in PRCA/WPRA earnings, and it remains to be seen whether she will focus on futurities or make another NFBR qualification run in 2024.
