The young guns of rodeo are breaking records across the board. Recently, the rookie Keenan Hayes won the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Bareback World Championship to become the first rookie to do so. The trend continued this weekend at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Okla.

Bull rider Hudson Bolton of Milan, Tenn., rewrote the history books when he dominated the International Finals Rodeo 54, the International Professional Rodeo Association finals. While only 17 years old, Bolton went toe to toe with the veterans and was the only bull rider to ride all four bulls.

The young rookie started the week off right by winning the first round with a 75.5-point ride on a bull called Air BNB. Stagecoach Slinger was loaded in the chutes to give Bolton a run for his money in round two. Despite the beast's best effort, Bolton wowed the crowd with his 89-point ride. It seemed as if nothing could stop the Tennessee man when he went on to win round 3. When he nodded his head on day four, the man on a mission completed the goal. He won second in the round and won the average to bring his year-end total to $79,705, which was more than $50,000 more than his closest competitor.

Waycross, Ga., is the home to IPRA legend Justin Thigpen. The veteran proved his steadfast consistency when the steer wrestling title hung in the balance of round four results. Thigpen was on top with his 3.8-second run and the world title when the round was over.

Thigpen continued his winning ways in the tie-down roping. Throughout four rounds, he out-roped his competition in the average to be first with a total time of 36.9 on four head. The cowboy didn't have near the pressure in the tie-down as he won the year by about $21,000 over Zeb Chapman of Lafayette, Ga.

Winning the All-Around title upped the Georgian's number to 25-time World Champion in the association and made Thigpen the winningest cowboy in IPRA history.
