Every year, on the first weekend of February, the Brazos County Exposition Center in Bryan, Texas, is filled with timed event cowboys and cowgirls from all over who come to honor the memory of Seth Leon Blaine Broesche. He was said to have a smile that could light up any room and had a heart of gold.

The 22-year-old son of Lance and Sunny Broesche and brother to Sutton Eddings was taken too soon on March 5, 2016, in a tragic auto accident. Since then, his family and friends have worked tirelessly to

keep the memory of their cowboy alive.

The Broesche family is deeply rooted in the rodeo industry, so when the question of what to do with the memorial fund came about, the obvious choice was to put on a roping. In addition to the roping, the family gives away multiple scholarships to high school seniors and college-aged students and donates to aid in medical expenses and costs incurred after death to families in the community.

The event honors every timed event that Broesche loved, and in the past few years, it has held additional match ropings in memorial of other members in the rodeo community. The match ropings are between the previous year's open roping champion and match champion.

This year, the breakaway match was held in honor of Sydney Arthur of Navasota, Texas, who tragically lost her life in September 2023.

The tie-down roping match was held in honor of Don Imus, father, and friend of the family, who passed in 2019.

Tie-Down Roping Match: Cole Clemons Vs. Blane Cox

Over the two-day weekend, the roping paid out over $116,000 in cash and prizes throughout all three events. In 2023, over $31,000 in scholarships were given away in Broesche's memory. Event scholarships are given away to high school seniors and college-aged students who are high-money earners in their respected events, as well as the high-money-earning girls and boys and the all-around champions.

From past and present World Champions to some of the biggest names in rodeo, everyone has their reasons for showing up every year. The memories shared about the beautiful life that Broesche left behind are said to keep him alive and bring smiles to everyone's faces just as he did.

Each year, the family goes to new heights and seeks more ways to give back to a community their son loved so dearly.

Ropers, keep your calendars open for the first week of February each year and make the trip to Bryan, Texas, in honor of a great young cowboy who is gone too soon.
