There's no denying that Chris Jericho has been one of the cornerstone performers in All Elite Wrestling since he signed with the company seven years ago, and he may be on his way back.

The nine-time World Champion has been on hiatus from AEW for nearly a year now, and was heavily rumored to be heading back to WWE over the winter.

Jericho's contract with AEW was originally set to expire at the end of 2025, but Sean Ross Sapp with Fightful Select reported back in February that many believed his deal had been frozen. As of this writing, he remains on the AEW roster page and is firmly signed to the company.

After rumors of his WWE return started to die down following the Royal Rumble, Jericho's name resurfaced after he trademarked the phrase “Cornerstone.” Sean Ross Sapp is reporting Wednesday afternoon that wrestling fans may soon find out a way.

"Sources in AEW do have a growing belief that he will return to the company, especially with the nature of the trademark making more sense there," Ross Sapp said in his report for Fightful. "We’ve not heard anything regarding a WWE return at this stage. There has been a lot of chatter internally about Jericho possibly returning tonight."

Ross Sapp also said that there absolutely had been conversations between Chris Jericho and WWE in recent months, but at no point were creative plans ever put in place.

"He was never planned for the WWE Raw on Netflix anniversary, Royal Rumble, or Elimination Chamber," Ross Sapp said. "At the very least, Jericho and AEW have been discussing a return in the last couple of months."

During a recent interview with GamesHub, Jericho said that he definitely planned on making a return to the ring at some point, but he wasn't sure how much room he had left on his bump card.

"Here I am at 55, 35 years in, with still some career left to go. I don’t know if it’s a year, two years, four years — I’m not sure."

WWE was reportedly interested in bringing Jericho back for a retirement run in 2026, but it was never determined if he was on board with the idea of hanging up his boots at the end of this year.

Jericho has not wrestled since he lost the ROH World Championship to Bandido at AEW Dynasty 2025. It sounds like he could be back in the mix for this year's event, coming up on Sunday, April 12 in Los Angeles.
