AEW Dynamite Results & Booking Grades (8/12/26): Omega Helps Ospreay for the Last Time

Highlights, results, and grades for this week's episode of AEW Dynamite featuring Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Knight for the TNT Championship.

When AEW Dynamite Grand Slam went off the air last week, Will Ospreay was standing tall in the ring after a victory in a street fight over Mark Davis. This week, Ospreay started off the show to a strong reaction from the Las Vegas audience.

Ospreay cut a promo in the ring and said what a highlight it was to be able to wrestle in Arena Mexico last week. Ospreay told a story about his grandfather and then called Kenny Omega out to the ring after ridiculing Omega for not being around last week. Ospreay said he wrestled last week to set an example. Don Callis answered the call instead.

Callis walked out to the entrance ramp and detailed his history with Kenny Omega. He said he made Omega and that there was a time he made Ospreay in AEW as well. Callis told Ospreay that he forgot that and then ordered his faction to attack Ospreay. It was a four-on-one assault on Ospreay until Kenny Omega's music hit.

Omega hit the ring with a pipe and cleared it of Don Callis Family members. With Ospreay down, Omega picked up a microphone and addressed him. Omega said that Ospreay has gotten sloppy because of his emotions. He then helped Ospreay to his feet and said he wanted to fight a complete Ospreay at Wembley Stadium. Omega said that he wouldn't help Ospreay again.

Ospreay told Omega he didn't ask for his help. He then thanked him and left the ring.

Booking Grade: 6/10

  • Don Callis really shouldn't have to be involved in every single thing that Omega does. His involvement here was to create a situation where Omega could save Ospreay, and to that end, it was fine.
  • I'm not sure I get it, though. Omega questioning Ospreay kind of fell on deaf ears. Ospreay has been on a roll and a little attack from Don Callis worried Omega? Kind of a confusing promo segment and too cute. Omega and Ospreay are better off talking about their history, being the best, and the world title.

MJF gets a huge boost for All In

MJF defeated Nick Wayne and Mike Bailey to earn the second slot in the Casino Gauntlet Match at All In. Wayne and Bailey carried most of the match as MJF sat it out. Eventually, he got in the action and tried to team with Nick Wayne.

That worked for a while, but all three men ended up making it a fight. In the end, MJF won the match with his armbar submission. He locked the hold in on Wayne, who tapped out almost instantly.

After the match, MJF cut a promo and declared that he would win the Casino Gauntlet Match at All In. Andrade El Idolo's music played, but it was a ruse by MJF. MJF said Andrade wasn't in the building because he took him out. MJF said that both Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay were afraid of him and that he would prove to the world that he was the real world champion.

Booking Grade: 8/10

  • Nothing special here, but smart. MJF had to get the slot so that a showdown with Andrade happens at All In. He got it and he got it heelishly.
  • I wish AEW would put more context behind the "real world champion" bit. What the heck does it mean, exactly?

Two backstage promos aired. The first was from Divine Dominion. They stood in a bar and ridiculed Brawling Birds for always drinking. They said they would embarrass them at All In and then poured their drinks all over the floor.

Jay White was next. He stood with Mick Foley and the Bang Bang Gang and talked about his upcoming match with David Finlay. White said he was back and that he would end The Dogs and then go on to win the Continental Cup.

Jay White defeated David Finlay to advance in the Continental Cup tournament. White had to battle interference, but in the end he was able to get the victory after a Blade Runner.

Booking Grade: 8/10

  • White had to win this one. He's a significantly more important talent for AEW than Finlay and has come up on the losing end of this feud with The Dogs too often. White makes the Continental Cup tournament much more interesting than Finlay does.

Adam Page and Brodido celebration takes a major Swerve

Adam Page and Brodido were interviewed by Tony Schiavone in the ring. They celebrated their AEW Trios Championship win, but were soon interrupted by Swerve Strickland.

Strickland talked to each member of the group and gave his longtime rival, Adam Page, extra attention. He asked Page what his story would be now that he can't ever challenge for the AEW World Championship again.

Eventually, The Demand walked out and ran down everyone in the ring. They said that their business with Brodido didn't include Strickland. Strickland left the ring, but not without calling Ricochet a b----. Page and Brodido told The Demand to come down to the ring and get their rematch. They started to, but then called it off. They said they would do it on their own terms.

Booking Grade: 6/10

  • The stuff with The Demand and Brodido was fine, but the Strickland involvement was odd. I know you want Strickland doing something at All In, but this felt very forced.

AEW aired the footage of Mercedes Mone attacking Willow Nightingale during her interview segment with Renee Paquette. It was a vicious attack that put plenty of heat on Mone.

Kevin Knight defeated Chris Jericho to retain the TNT Championship. Don Callis was all over this match. He interfered at every single turn. The interference included trying to use a screwdriver on Jericho.

Jericho tried to hit his back elbow finisher, but Knight ducked it. With the referee distracted because of Callis, Knight hit a low blow and followed it with a Crash Landing for the victory.

Booking Grade: 8/10

  • A pretty good match. Even with the Callis interference. Pretty hard to build real drama in this one. Don't think anyone really thought that Knight was going to lose his title.

Huge TBS Championship match booked for next week

Kris Statlander defeated Viva Van in a relatively quick singles match. After the match, Mick Foley joined Statlander in the ring. He informed Statlander that Maya World would defend her TBS Championship next week against Statlander, Hikaru Shida, and Persephone.

Shida and Persephone walked out and seemingly tried to attack Statlander, but World and Thunder Rosa walked out to make the save. They then took on Hida and Persephone in a tag team match.

Maya World and Thunder Rosa defeated Hikaru Shida and Persephone in a tag team match. World was the star of the match. Much of it was her on offense and she got the victory in the end.

Booking Grade: 7/10

  • Both matches were solid with good action. The TBS Championship match next week feels a bit out of nowhere.
  • I like the strong presentation of Maya World. She was an underdog in winning the championship and now it's time to own that spot. Strong outings like this one help her do that.

Jon Moxley advances in the Continental Cup tournament

Jon Moxley defeated Jack Perry to advance in the Continental Cup tournament. This was a bloody match, as Perry was busted open by the ring post. Perry battled and was presented as a fighting babyface who just didn't have enough in the tank to beat Moxley.

Moxley now continues on in the tournament as champion. He celebrated as the show went off the air.

Booking Grade: 9/10

  • This was a brutal match, but a fun match with a really good story. Perry played the underdog well, but it was Moxley selling his own exasperation about not being able to put him away that put everything over the most.

  • MJF defeated Mike Bailey and Nick Wayne to earn the number two slot in the Casino Gauntlet Match at All In
  • Jay White defeated David Finlay to advance in the Continental Classic Cup tournament
  • Kevin Knight defeated Chris Jericho to retain the TNT Championship
  • Kris Statlander defeated Viva Van
  • Maya World and Thunder Rosa defeated Hikaru Shida and Persephone
  • Jon Moxley defeated Jack Perry to advance in the Continental Classic Cup tournament
