WWE Holding SummerSlam at Cleveland Browns Stadium

This marks the first time that SummerSlam will be in Cleveland since August of 1996

WWE is filling out its calendar.

The pro wrestling conglomerate announced that its signature summer event, SummerSlam, will take place on Saturday, August 3 in Cleveland, Ohio at the Cleveland Browns Stadium.

An early August date makes sense. Under the Nick Khan regime, WWE has aimed to move SummerSlam ahead of college football, which led to more mainstream exposure before last year’s event. With the prior Premium Live Event currently listed as Money in the Bank on July 6, the August 3 date works well for SummerSlam, especially with the inaugural Bash in Berlin set for August 31, a more traditional date for SummerSlam.

Here is the most up-to-date summer slate of WWE PLEs:

  • Saturday, July 6: Money in the Bank
  • Saturday, August 3: SummerSlam
  • Saturday, August 31: Bash in Berlin

A night before the event, SmackDown will also take place in Cleveland at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouseCleveland is home to several members of the WWE roster, including Logan Paul, The Miz, and Johnny Gargano. This marks the first time that SummerSlam will be held in Cleveland since August of 1996, which was headlined by Shawn Michaels defeating Vader.

In an official statement, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque commented on the announcement:

“The city of Cleveland and WWE have a rich history that spans decades,” said Levesque. “We are excited to bring SummerSlam, SmackDown, and a full slate of events to town in partnership with Haslam Sports Group and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.”
