Watch: La Costa Canyon senior Gabe Camacho discusses repeating as San Diego Section Open Division champions

Hayden Kline's fifth inning three-run home run was the difference in La Costa Canyon's 5-2 win over Eastlake.

SAN DIEGO -- La Costa Canyon made history on Friday night, becoming the first San Diego Section baseball team to repeat as Open Division champions. The top-seeded Mavericks went unbeaten during the playoffs, beating Eastlake 5-2 in the championship game.

Tied at two in the bottom of the fifth inning, designated hitter Hayden Kline hit a three-run home run to give the Mavericks a 5-2 lead. Senior Gabe Camacho, who started the fifth inning rally with a double off the right field wall, pitched 1.2 innings in relief before junior Cooper Walls closed out the final inning.

Camacho, the lone three-year varsity player on the Mavericks roster, captured a Southern California regional championship as a sophomore before winning San Diego Section Open Division titles in each of the last two seasons.
