The Florida high school football season is scheduled to begin Thursday, Aug. 24 — 42 days from today. As we count down the days until kickoff, SBLive Florida will give you one significant number per day.

One of the most storied, talked about rivalries down in South Florida is the one between Miami Central and Miami Northwestern. Two schools with a good winning tradition and the gold standard for state championships out of Dade County. 

In a rivalry that pits schools that have a combined 17 state championships between the two, last season’s regular season meeting between the powers was won in a landslide by the eventual Class 2M state champion Rockets. 

Miami Central cruised to a 42-7 victory over Miami Northwestern in Week 7 of the season. The 35-point loss would be the largest margin Northwestern would lose by in all of 2022. The two teams would meet again in the playoffs, with the Rockets just edging out the Bulls 34-30.
