Pinnacle opened the season against another Open qualifier of a year ago and posted a dominant 52-13 home victory against Horizon.

The Pioneers defense forced six turnovers, and sophomore quarterback Devon Dampier threw for five touchdowns and ran for two more as Pinnacle led 52-0 through three quarters.

“Our defense played great. The turnovers that we had, the momentum just shifted toward us,” Dampier said.

Dampier showed an instant connection with senior wideout Dorian Singer, a Minnesota transfer who caught three touchdown passes — the last coming early in the third quarter before the second-stringers took over.

“Dorian has had a major impact for us,” Dampier said. “To me, he’s the best wide receiver in Arizona.”

Singer will have that acclaim put to the test in this week’s matchup with Chandler, No. 8 in the most recent SBLive Power 25 rankings, and the Wolves' two FBS receivers — Kyion Graves and Jalen Richmond.

“We’re very excited to play them,” Dampier said. “This will be a great game. Everyone’s looking forward to it.”
