Michigan commit Jess Mruzik captained the 12-girl American team and led them to victory at the U-18 World Championships in September, the first time the country has ever won the tournament. The 17-year-old has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball on scholarship at the University of Michigan this fall and beyond that, has her sights set on the Olympics.

The Gatorade Player of the Year award is the most prestigious award in high school sports because it recognizes the nation’s most elite high school athletes for their accomplishments on and off the field. Past winners include Peyton Manning, Abby Wambach, Karl-Anthony Towns, Derek Jeter and many other sports icons.
