We’ve picked out 10 freshmen football players in Virginia that have stood out this season.

We are just past the mid-point part of the 2023 high school football season here in Virginia and there’s no shortage of underclassmen performing at a high level. It’s no surprise that freshmen are showing out in Old Dominion as that’s been the case in the past many times over. This list of underclassmen features some of the top freshmen football players we’ve seen or have been on the rise in Virginia. Take a look at our list and vote for who you feel has been the top performing freshman high school football player in Virginia.

Here are the nominations. 

Denari Hill, QB, Woodbridge: Hill leads all freshman signal callers in passing yards this season, with the quarterback throwing for 1,156 yards and 13 touchdowns this season. 

Malcolm Bivens, RB, Sussex Central: When it comes to running backs in Virginia of the 2027 class, Bivens has been tops in yardage. Biven has rushed for 725 yards and four touchdowns. 

Me’nasir Gantt, RB, National Christian Academy: Gantt has seen time on both sides of the ball for NCA and done most of his damage on offense. The tailback has rushed for 298 yards and three scores. 

Devin Chittams, LB, National Christian Academy: When it comes to freshmen leaders in the sack department, Chittams leads all. The linebacker has totaled five sacks this fall. 

Ethan LaFollette, RB, Loudoun Valley: The Vikings running back has done a nice job this season, rushing for 276 yards and four touchdowns. 

Anthony Henderson Jr., WR, Burton: Henderson Jr. has been the state's top freshman wide receiver when it comes to piling up the stats. The freshman has caught 26 passes for 405 yards and three touchdowns. 

Iveon Lewis, WR, Huguenot: The 6-foot-2, 185-pound wide receiver has been a force for the Falcons, catching 13 passes for 278 yards and five touchdowns.

Camden Wysocki, DT, Meadowbrook: No defensive lineman has made the kind of impact as a freshman like Wysocki. The defensive tackle has tallied 46 tackles, seven for loss and two sacks. 

Chris Whitehead, DE, L.C. Bird: The defensive end has had a strong season so far for L.C. Bird, racking up four sacks as a freshman. 

Malachi Lee, DB, Virginia Academy: Leading all freshmen that play out of the secondary in interceptions is Lee, who has intercepted four passes this season.
