Here are the best male athletes to come out of Jefferson County, Washington

With help from coaches, fans, media and local sports historians, SBLive has put together its lists of the best athletes -- male and female -- to emerge from every county in the state of Washington. We looked back as far as the turn of the 20th century, and we examined the totality of each athletes' career, not only what they did in high school.

BEST MALE ATHLETESIN OKANOGAN COUNTY HISTORY
JOHN STROEDER
High School: Port Townsend (class of 2001)
Sports: Football, baseball, basketball
Notable Stats: Derting's three interceptions against Nevada as a redshirt freshman at Washington State University, including one for a school-record 98-yard touchdown return, ranks No. 2 all-time as a Cougars' single-game mark.
It took that one game against Nevada, and the Derting legend at linebacker was born.
TOMMY YARR
High School: Chimacum Prep (class of 1928)
Sports: Football, basketball, baseball
Notable Stats: Derting's three interceptions against Nevada as a redshirt freshman at Washington State University, including one for a school-record 98-yard touchdown return, ranks No. 2 all-time as a Cougars' single-game mark.
First native american to play football for Notre Dame. First year on varsity was Knute Rockne's final year in 1930 - starting center for the defending natinal champions. Two INTs against SMU.
