CINCINNATI (AP) Reliever Kevin Siegrist's left forearm tightened up again after his latest outing, prompting the St. Louis Cardinals to put the reliever on the disabled list on Saturday before the second game of a series against the Cincinnati Reds.

The left-hander has felt tightness in the forearm recently. Manager Mike Matheny gave him a couple days of rest last week to try to let it heal. Siegrist came into Friday night's game against the Reds with two outs and two runners aboard in the seventh inning and got Jay Bruce to ground out. He stayed in the game and pitched a perfect eighth inning.

When the inning ended, he told Matheny the forearm was bothering him again.

''He came in off the field after his full inning and said it just tightened up,'' Matheny said. ''He was frustrated.''

He was examined and diagnosed with a strained muscle, prompting the move to the 15-day disabled list. Siegrist has made 23 appearances, tied for the team lead. He's 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA in 20 innings.

Left-hander Sam Freeman was called up from Triple-A Memphis to take his spot. Freeman also was with the Cardinals from May 13-15, pitching a scoreless inning in his only appearance. He was 0-1 with a 3.54 ERA in 16 games at Memphis.
