Yankees 1B Teixeira leaves with sore right wrist

NEW YORK (AP) Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira left Saturday's game against Minnesota because of more inflammation in his surgically repaired right wrist, and is expected to miss two games.

New York manager Joe Girardi said he noticed Teixeira wasn't swinging well and pulled him in the sixth inning of a 3-1 win. Teixeira missed three games this week at St. Louis because of soreness in his wrist and returned to the lineup Friday night.

''Couple more days off, we'll see where we're at,'' Girardi said.

''Our feeling, right now, is that it's going to be short term,'' he said.

Teixeira struck out and grounded out, leaving him in a 5-for-32 slump. He is hitting .242 with 25 RBIs and a team-leading nine home runs.

The 34-year-old Teixeira was on the 15-day disabled list in April because of a strained right hamstring.

Teixeira missed most of last season after having wrist surgery.

''The farther we get away from the surgery date, the better off we are,'' Girardi said.

Girardi also said the pitcher Michael Pineda would be shut down ''for a while'' because of inflammation in his ailing back. Pineda has been on the disabled list since May 6.

Pineda was supposed to pitch this weekend in extended spring training in Florida, but an MRI showed the problem.

''It's not the news we wanted,'' Girardi said.

Pineda is 2-2 with a 1.83 ERA in four starts. He was suspended for 10 games this year for using pine tar to get a better grip on his pitches.
