NEW YORK (AP) The New York Yankees have shuffled their catchers, activating Francisco Cervelli from the disabled list and sending John Ryan Murphy to the minors.

The Yankees made the moves before Tuesday night's game against Toronto.

Cervelli strained his hamstring in mid-April while running out a grounder. He was hitting .188 in five games as the backup to Brian McCann. Cervelli has played parts of the seven seasons for the Yankees, batting .269 with 80 RBIs.

Murphy was promoted when Cervelli went on the DL, and hit .286 with one homer and eight RBIs in 63 at-bats for New York.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said the 23-year-old Murphy did well, and would benefit by getting regular playing time in Triple-A.
