Washington Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond left Thursday night's loss to the Baltimore Orioles after being hit by a pitch on his right hand.
Washington Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond left Thursday night's loss to the Baltimore Orioles after being hit by a pitch on his right hand.
Nationals manager Matt Williams said after the game that X-rays taken on Desmond's hand were negative. He initially stayed in the game, but left after warming up before the bottom of the eighth inning. One of his warm-up throws sailed high above Nats first baseman Adam LaRoche. Danny Espinosa took over for Desmond at shortstop.
Desmond is batting .241 with 16 homers, 55 RBI, and a .722 OPS this season. His home run and RBI numbers are team highs.
Washington is currently tied with the Atlanta Braves for first place in the National League East.
