Despite being in third place in the NL West, the Padres are 12 games back of the first-place Dodgers entering the second half of the season. The team fired general manager Josh Byrnes in June, and San Diego will try to keep teams from plucking young talent from their roster at the trade deadline. 

The Padres have struggled this season offensively. San Diego is last in the majors in runs scored, hits, RBI, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS.
