The Detroit Tigers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Cleveland Indians are all eyeing a trade for San Diego Padres reliever Joaquin Benoit, CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported Sunday, though whether a trade happens by the non-waiver deadline is still "up in the air."

Heyman reported the Tigers and Pirates would be interested in Benoit as an eighth-inning option and/or as insurance in case their respective options — Joe Nathan and Mark Melancon — tail off. Both teams are also reportedly interested in acquiring Texas Rangers reliever Joakim Soria. The Indians' interest is geared more toward "fortifying a young bullpen."

Benoit has another year left on a two-year, $15.5 million contract.Benoit is 4-2 with a 1.99 ERA and 0.84 WHIP this season. He has 47 strikeouts to just 11 walks in 40 2/3 innings pitched.
