The Kansas City Royals have traded Jimmy Paredes to the Baltimore Orioles for cash considerations, the team announced Thursday.

The utilityman had been designated for assignment on July 16. Thursday marked the seven-day deadline for the Royals to release, trade or demote Paredes.

The 25-year-old has been up and down between Triple-A and the majors this season and only has 10 at-bats on the season for the Royals, recording two hits, stealing two bases and scoring three runs. Previously, he played for the Houston Astros, posting a career-best OPS of .716 in 168 at-bats as a rookie in 2011.
