Angels left handed pitcher Tyler Skaggs will likely miss the next year after it was announced by the team on Sunday that he will undergo Tommy John surgery.

The news comes just after the team announced earlier in August that the 23-year-old would not need surgery to repair a left flexor tendon strain. Skaggs went 5-5 with a 4.30 ERA in 18 starts and last pitched July 31 vs. the Orioles.

The Angels are second in the AL West heading into Sunday's series finale at home vs. the Red Sox.
