ST. LOUIS (AP) Kyle Hendricks' no-hit bid for the Chicago Cubs has been broken up in the ninth inning when Jeremy Hazelbaker of the St. Louis Cardinals hit a leadoff home run on an 0-2 pitch.

Hendricks struck out seven and walked two. He began the night with a 2.07 ERA, lowest in the majors.

Hazelbaker's drive trimmed Chicago's lead to 4-1.

After the ball cleared the fence, Hendricks gave a slight nod of his head. Teammates went to the mound to talk to him, leading to an argument between Cubs manager Joe Maddon and plate umpire Joe West.

The right-hander was then relieved by closer Aroldis Chapman.
