The Halos were the center of the baseball world a week ago when they announced that Shohei Ohtani will not be traded. The team backed up its decision to not move Ohtani by becoming one of the biggest buyers in the league

Although the team made many moves that may improve the team on paper, some outlets are critical of the Angels' trades.

The Athletic came out with its grades for every team's deadline. When it came to the Angels, the publication was not fans of the team.

Overall, the Halos received a D grade for their transactions.

First, the Athletic was quick to criticize General Manager Perry Minasian's decision to not trade Ohtani. The article explained that the team missed out on the largest haul ever for a rental player.

"We’re talking probably six to eight top-20 type prospects. But the Angels will never know what they actually could have gotten back because they took Ohtani off the trade market a week before the deadline." (Via The Athletic)

Next, the article was critical of the Angels' willingness to part with prospects for upcoming free agents.

The team acquired Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez from the White Sox and CJ Cron and Randal Grichuk from the Rockies.

All four of those players are not guaranteed to return to LA next season. In exchange for them, the Angels gave away four of their top 30 prospects.

The article says that the Angels made all its moves this trade deadline with the intention of being able to keep Ohtani in the offseason.

"The Angels basically mortgaged their future because they feel they can still make the playoffs, which, if they’re successful, would improve their chances of re-signing Ohtani this winter. But I don’t think they are going to make the playoffs, particularly considering the rough schedule that awaits in August, and thus, likely will not be able to re-sign Ohtani." (Via The Athletic)

We don't know if that will be the case.
