It gets pretty frustrating when the Los Angeles Angels continue to get into a perfect rhythm heading into one of their more important series of the early season and then fail to do the very things that have made them successful.

And don't get me wrong, there is a lot to juggle on their plates right and most notably, the front office is changing the roster every single week. Anthony Rendon has yet to return to the lineup from his groin injury and like team manager Phil Nevin said, they are a whole different group when he's playing.

But there certainly is a higher standard whenever Shohei Ohtani takes the mound and even when he doesn't perform up to the superstar heights he's showed us before, that just means that the rest of the squad should be looking to pick up his slack. Unfortunately, that just was not the case in their Friday 6-2 loss to the Astros as they were only able to score two runs while barely getting on base.

Time and time again, it has been Nevin who has defended his guys after an outing like this one. This time, he respected the fight that the Astros brought before anything else and then recognized what went wrong for the Halos.

“First off, Valdez is very good,” Manager Phil Nevin said, “but we got to him, got some runners out there and had some chances. Three double plays that ended some rallies, that hurt us a little bit. That’s what great pitchers do. We’ve got to be better in those spots.”

Luckily the Halos still have two more games ahead of them to at least try and tie the series before going back home. They do not want that plane ride to be a somber one!
