AJ Smith-Shawver Looks to Continue Making Rotation Case Against Yankees

The Atlanta Braves are going to visit the New York Yankees for Grapefruit League action

The Atlanta Braves are getting a good look at one of the presumed American League frontrunners today.

Owing to their trade for slugger Juan Soto (despite Ronald Acuña Jr's ask to bring him to Atlanta), the New York Yankees are one of the favorites to represent the American League in the 2024 World Series.

And Atlanta's heading to George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa to take them on today in Grapefruit League action.

Here's how the Braves will line up for today's contest:

CF Michael Harris II
2B David Fletcher
LF Jared Kelenic
C Sean Murphy
3B Nacho Alvarez Jr.
RF Forrest Wall
1B Luke Williams
DH Luis Liberato
SS Andrew Velazquez

AJ Smith-Shawver is the scheduled starter for Atlanta, with lefty A.J. Minter among the scheduled pitchers to follow the young righty.

Smith-Shawver has flashed impressive stuff this spring, but has middling results from it in Grapefruit League play. He's allowed three earned runs in 4.2 innings, striking out eight with two walks. Home runs were a problem in his first start, with Smith-Shawver allowing two in the same inning to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Here's how the Yankees will line up at home for the contest:

3B DJ LeMahieu
RF Juan Soto
CF Aaron Judge
1B Anthony Rizzo
2B Gleyber Torres
DH Giancarlo Stanton
LF Alex Verdugo
C Jose Trevino
SS Oswaldo Cabrera

SP Clarke Schmidt
