Atlanta Braves tie MLB record with five players at thirty or more home runs

Ozzie Albies got his 30th in the first inning on Saturday, tying the 2019 Twins for most players with thirty in a single season

Ozzie Albies hit a first inning home run today for the Atlanta Braves, giving him 30 for the season and catapulting this season's power production into rarified air.

The 2023 Atlanta Braves are now only the 2nd team in Major League Baseball history to have five players with thirty or more home runs, as Albies joins Matt Olson (a MLB-leading 51), Ronald Acuña Jr (37), Austin Riley (36), and Marcell Ozuna (34) with thirty or more homers.

The other team who has achieved that is the 2019 Minnesota Twins, who took advantage of the "juiced ball" that season to set league records for power production. The Twins finished with 307 total homers, a record which Atlanta is narrowly on pace to beat.

Interestingly, Eddie Rosario was one of those 30-homer hitters with that Twins team, and he's currently the closest to breaking the tie and giving Atlanta a 6th. It's not likely, as Rosario is only at 21 homers through 129 games, but he's had power binges before and there's over two weeks left in the season.

There have been 13 teams in MLB history to have four players with 30 homers in a single season, including the 1998 Braves, who saw 1B Andres Gallaraga (44), C Javy Lopez (34), 3B Chipper jones (34), and CF Andruw Jones (31) all pass the 30 homer mark.
