Cardinals Reportedly Among Many Suiters Active In Bullpen Market

St. Louis is competing for relievers this winter

The St. Louis Cardinals have succeeded in retooling their rotation but the bullpen could use some work.

After filling the three missing holes in the rotation, president of baseball operations John Mozeliak announced that the club would focus on finding relief pitching to further bolster the pitching staff.

The competition for pitching this offseason has been stiff but the Cardinals are still in the mix with big market clubs to find what they're looking for.

"In the words of one source, the bullpen market includes 'damn near everyone'," FanSided's Robert Murray reported Thursday. "Among those teams, sources say, include the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs."

The Cardinals bullpen ranked No. 23 with a 4.47 ERA last season and are in desperate need of adding a high-leverage hurler or two with some added depth to turn things around in 2024.

So far, the Cardinals have signed a few prospects with little experience in the big leagues and missed opportunities to sign highly coveted international relievers this winter.

There are still plenty of hot commodities on the market for St. Louis to acquire but the clock is ticking. Valuable relievers still available include Josh Hader, Aroldis Chapman, David Robertson, and Jordan Hicks -- who the Cardinals are eyeing a reunion with.

Will the Cardinals outbid one of the aforementioned organizations to land the relief pitching they need to bounce back next season?
