Chicago Cubs Spring Training Schedule With Game Times

The Chicago Cubs are set to return to their spring training home where they'll play their home games at Sloan Park.

When the Chicago Cubs begin spring training in Mesa, Ariz., change at the top will be the watchword with the arrival of manager Craig Counsell.

Pitchers and catchers report to the team facility on Feb. 14, with the rest of the team reporting on Feb. 19 for the team’s first full workout.

After that, the team will start its spring training schedule at Sloan Park against the Chicago White Sox.

The Cubs hired Counsell on Nov. 6, the result of a quick courtship that came after his contract expired with the Milwaukee Brewers in Nov. 1. In hiring him away from Milwaukee, the Cubs made him the highest-paid manager in baseball history, a five-year deal worth $40 million.

With that, the Cubs lured a thorn in their side for the past several years. Counsell had turned the Brewers into a winner, with five playoff appearances and three NL Central titles in the last six years.

Counsell’s arrival, the Cubs hope, means the team will return to the playoffs for the first time in 2020, when the Cubs made the NL Wild Card playoffs in the COVID-shortened season. The Cubs’ last playoff berth in a full season was 2018.

The Cubs had a relatively quiet offseason that was marked with the failure to lure two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani to the windy city, followed by their early overtures to pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto going unanswered.

But, in January, the Cubs were able to reel in another Japanese pitcher, Shota Imanaga, right before the Cubs Convention. With that, the Cubs were able to boost their starting rotation going into spring training.

Once spring training is done, the Cubs will head to Arlington, Texas, to open the season against the World Champion Texas Rangers on March 28.
