Mahomes, Son of Former Cubs Pitcher, Going for Third Super Bowl Championship
Pat Mahomes, father of Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, spent one season with the Chicago Cubs in 2002. The right-handed reliever enjoyed an 11-year big-league career, posting a 5.47 ERA and 452 strikeouts in 709 innings pitched.
Being around a professional from a young age helped Patrick form into the football player he currently is. As undoubtedly the best quarterback in the NFL, he now has a chance to win his third Super Bowl.
Doing so won't be an easy task, but as Mahomes has shown throughout his NFL career, he has more than enough to get the job done. Many people counted them out this season, and despite the Chiefs having a down year for their standards, they still managed to make another Super Bowl.
His father spoke after their win against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship, telling Harold R. Kuntz of FOX4 how proud he was.
"Kansas City vs Everybody" -- "We're going for 3 and then we're going to go for 4,5,6,7, 8 and 9!"
The former Cubs pitcher makes it known that no matter what happens, he's always been proud of his son.
The 2014 high school graduate was the No. 389 ranked player in his grade, according to Perfect Game. He was drafted in the 37th round of the MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers.
Given his success in the NFL, he certainly made the right decision.
Another Super Bowl for Mahomes puts him in talks of arguably being the greatest ever. He has a chance to do just that against the San Francisco 49ers on Feb. 11, 2024.
