Dodgers Make Trade With Phillies, Acquire Veteran Relief Pitcher

The Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies agreed to a trade on Saturday, giving Los Angeles more depth in their relief system. The Dodgers sent left-hander Benony Robles to Philadelphia in exchange for veteran right-handed reliever Connor Brogdon.

Brogdon was designated for assignment by the Phillies earlier this week after he gave up a grand slam and three walks to the Cincinnati Reds in a 10-inning loss. He has allowed seven runs, including two home runs and issued six walks over three appearances this season.

Philadelphia saw enough out of him and decided to make a change. The Dodgers will look to try to bring back the magic that Brogdon showed for the Phillies during the 2022 playoff run they had.

He pitched 8.2 innings for the Phillies, striking out 13 batters. The right-hander was effective in the World Series, striking out seven in four scoreless innings against the Houston Astros.

He hasn't been the same since, but heading to the Dodgers could help turn things around. Los Angeles has shown a knack for helping pitchers rekindle their skills, so the hope is he will be the next.
