Dodgers Make Freddie Freeman Happy, Bring Back Jason Heyward on One-Year Deal

The stove is hot!

The MLB offseason is officially in full swing, and the Los Angeles Dodgers made their first big move. On Monday morning, the team reached an agreement with outfielder Jason Heyward on a one-year, $9 million deal. Kiley McDaniel of ESPN was first to report the news.

Heyward broke out for the Dodgers in 2023 after joining on a minor league deal. He had his best year since 2019, hitting .269 with 15 home runs and 40 runs batted in.

Heyward joined LA as somewhat of an afterthought, and ended up making the Opening Day roster and playing a crucial role for the 100-win team. Heyward was the everyday right fielder against right-handed pitching, and thrived both offensively and defensively.

Heyward's greatest impact, however, may have come off the field, as he became a true leader in the Dodgers clubhouse.

Heyward was the guy giving champagne toast speeches after big moments, and was always giving his teammates thoughtful gifts throughout the year.

Additionally, he mentored the Dodgers young rookies, most notably outfielder James Outman. Outman credits Heyward for his breakout rookie season, and that, in and of itself, is worth the investment.

Freddie Freeman recently told Spectrum SportsNet LA that he wanted the Dodgers to bring back his close friend Jason Heyward. The Dodgers listened.

Welcome back to LA, J-Hey!
