Why the Dodgers' Triple-A Team Won't Have a Nickname in 2024

Say goodbye, Oklahoma City Dodgers. Say hello, Oklahoma City ... Baseball Team?

The Los Angeles Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate revealed that they will simply go by the "Oklahoma City Baseball Club" in 2024, rather than selecting a nickname for this season. The team will reveal its permanent moniker in the fall of 2024, after the season.

The Oklahoma City Baseball Club previously went by the Oklahoma City Dodgers from 2015-2023, after becoming affiliated with the Dodgers in 2015.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday in Oklahoma City, team president Michael Byrnes explained why Oklahoma City will not be releasing its nickname until after the 2024 season.

“It’s actually a really lengthy process to work through all the licensing and trademarking and all the elements that go into that branding. We’ll get through the 2024 season and early in the fall, then we’ll be able to share what the brand identity will look like for the 2025 season."

The change in branding comes after the Los Angeles Dodgers sold the team to Diamond Baseball Holdings in 2021. The Pacific Coast League team is looking to stay connected to its Oklahoma City home — rather than its parent club — with its new nickname.

The Oklahoma City Baseball Club is coming off a season in which it won the PCL championship after defeating the Round Rock Express. They fell short of the Triple-A National Championship title, losing to the Norfolk Tides.

Their 2024 season begins on March 29 on the road at Tacoma.
