Dodgers Prospect Achieves Unique Milestone

Miguel Vargas's chances of breaking camp with the Los Angeles Dodgers this spring were slim. The infield has depth with utility players who can also play outfield.

That hasn't stopped him from having a spectacular start to his season with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

In Sunday's win over Round Rock, Vargas went 1-for-2 with three walks. He has reached base in each of the team’s first 15 games this season and is the only player in the Pacific Coast League to have reached base in every game he's played.

Vargas is tearing it up in Oklahoma City. Not only has he reached base in every game, he has a .302/.435/.566 slash line with a team-leading 17 RBIs

The second baseman-turned outfielder has been playing left field in Oklahoma City and is wanting to prove himself worthy of a big league roster spot. He struggled last year, batting .195 over 256 at-bats. He was demoted at the All-Star Break and was never recalled.

“It was really tough for me. I’ve never struggled like that before,” Vargas said in February. “Obviously, every player’s goal is to play in the Majors. It was really difficult for me to accept that I was struggling that bad and that I was getting sent down, but things just didn’t go as I planned. My family really helped me this offseason. They helped me understand that failure is part of the game and life. I just had to learn from that and I think last year made me a stronger person.”

Vargas is far from struggling on the field this season and will get an opportunity when the time is right which might not be for a while.
