National MLB writer makes claim about Miami Marlins pitching

The Miami Marlins are not off to a good start.

The Miami Marlins starting the 2024 MLB season losing seven stright games is not ideal.

They've played the most games of any team in the NL East and have yet to win a game. They've already been outscored by 27 runs in the first week of the season.

The team at MLB.com put out an article highlighting a takeaway from every team's first week of action this season. As you could probably guess, the takeaway was not kind to the Marlins. The takeaway was that Miami's injured pitchers can't return soon enough.

"Miami has the pitching depth to replace four starters, but it's hard to adequately do so when it's the caliber of Sandy Alcantara, Eury Pérez, Edward Cabrera and Braxton Garrett," Christina De Nicola writes. "A big reason for the Marlins' 0-7 start -- the first time in MLB history a postseason club has been winless through seven games to open the following season -- is the rotation's 5.93 ERA and MLB-high 20 walks."

Miami's offense has been able to score some runs; players like Jake Burger and Bryan De Le Cruz are already approaching double-digit hits after the first week of the season but the main concern is wondering when Miami's pitching - the presumed strength of this team - can return to the mound.

"It’s an absolutely dreadful start that even the most pessimistic observers couldn’t see coming, and there’s legitimate questions about how deep this hole can get before they have to consider punting this season and making trades at the deadline (or before) to acquire assets," Inside The Marlins' Lindsay Crosby wrote earlier today
